PhilCAS is going to have a very busy 2012! On May 19, PhilCAS is having its annual theatre show, Mabuhay, held at the Genesis Theatr in Lander.

From July 6 to 15, they are traveling to Istanbul, Turkey, to attend several multicultrual festivals, just like they have in the past. In August, PhilCAS is also participating in the SEVEC exchange with the Karilagan dance group of Edmonton.

Practices are currently being held every Saturday, at the Subwalk Dance Centre (one of the major sponsors for the Mabuhay 2012 show).

PhilCAS of BC will be performing at the PNE this year on August 27 at the Festival Square. The fair invites PhilCAS every year to showcase Philippine tradition through dance and music.

MABUHAY 2010: A Success!

PhilCAS of BC and Pamana Ng LuzViMinda collaborated to produce a night of filipino culture, food and photos! It was a full house and both groups showcased a variety of Rural and Spanish Influences dances.

Photos from the event will follow shortly.

In the meantime, PhilCAS' junior performing group is currently in Montreal for a week in the safe hands of the Pamana members. They will be learning some of Pamana's dances and will tour the beautiful city!

PhilCAS will be collaborating with Pamana ng LuzViMinda on July 31st to showcase Filipino culture through art and dance. More information to follow.

AGM

PhilCAS is having its Annual General Meeting on the 28th of May.

Every two years, PhilCAS revisits its list of Board of Directors.
This year (2010) is that year when most Board members have completed
that magic number of 2 years. This year, we need to fill up 10
Board positions. And this year.... we are looking to having
representation from the youth (must be 17 & above).

Every member has equal opportunity. Every member can be nominated to
the Board. Every member should aspire to become a Board Member.
It is a good thing.

Why it matters to serve PhilCAS as a Board Member?
There are many reasons for that. The core reasons are:
- to learn leadership
- to practice leadership
- to challenge yourself
- to help improve our Society (in so many tangible and intangible ways) etc...
- and all of the above by DOING IT, not by reading about it nor by
looking how others are doing it.

Nominate somebody you know who you think is qualified to join the
Board.... or you may nominate yourself.

PhilCAS of BC was asked to perform for a concert in Port Moody with Joey Albert! It was a night of elegance and glamour as she serenaded the audience with her powerful pipes. Between the 3 sets, PhilCAS performed Pandanggo sa Ilaw and the Philippine national dance, Tinikling.

Phil Ind Day in Maple Ridge

PhilCAS performed at Maple Ridge Baptist Church this weekend for Philippine Independence Day, c/o Avi Pascual, a PhilCAS alumni. PhilCAS showcased some dances from the Spanish era and some from the Rural countryside. For the finale, John sang Josh Groban's "You Raise Me Up" with his fellow performers accompanying him.
